Azul Imperiale

Azul Imperiale is one of the rare blue quartzites quarried in the state of Bahia in northeastern Brazil, the same region that yields the famous Azul Macaubas. Its pastel sky-blue color comes from the aluminum-silicate mineral kyanite (roughly 5–8% of the stone), formed when a billion-plus-year-old quartz sandstone was recrystallized deep underground under heat and pressure into an exceptionally hard, scratch- and etch-resistant quartzite. The 'Azul Imperiale' name (Italian/Portuguese for 'imperial blue') reflects the regal rarity of a naturally blue stone. Stone reads differently in person — full slabs vary in movement and tone from any single swatch, so we'll pull the actual slab for you to see before anything is cut.
