What sealing does
An impregnating sealer helps resist staining. It does not make the surface stain-proof or replace daily care. Choose a product intended for your stone and application, and follow its instructions.

Keep the stone name, finish and product instructions with your project paperwork. Ask the shop whether sealing is appropriate and how to assess when maintenance is needed. Do not assume a fixed calendar applies to every stone.
Everyday care still matters
Use a stone-appropriate cleaner and wipe spills promptly. Follow the supplier's guidance for your finish, and contact the shop before trying a strong cleaner or a treatment for a persistent mark.
